Picking up a puzzle piece

Today I am trying to focus in on the puzzle piece. At the moment you click on a puzzle piece and simply drag it around. The movement feels ok, but I don’t get the feeling that I am interacting with the puzzle, there’s no visual indicator that this is the puzzle piece I have selected. So here’s the piece at the moment

Very exciting. I added a shadow to the pickup, playing around with how big the shadow is, how it looks when you click on it, spent far too long messing with all the parameters of a shadow until I forced myself to just pick one. Here’s what I settled on for now

The rest of today I am going to add a slight offset to the piece when you pick it up, so it looks more like you “picked” it. And then play around if I want any sound, I’m wary of sound, I have no skills in sound design but it feels like adding a sound to everything would be very wrong so I might just leave it and then have another pass at getting the click of when a puzzle piece snaps in just right. It feels if I manage to get that working it will add a lot to the feel of the game.

Designing a satisfying click however, continues to elude me.
